Sheppey leisure centre improvements

Construction work aimed at upgrading facilities at Sheppey Leisure is on time and looking good.

Swale Borough Council are investing £2 million to upgrade and repair leisure facilities in the borough, which includes a healthy lifestyle gym being installed in the pool building, replacing an underused soft play area. This will feature power-assisted equipment to encourage users of all physical abilities to meet, socialise and enjoy improving their health and fitness together.

The squash court is being replaced by a virtual spin room where users will be able to attend an instructor led class, or ‘drop-in and spin’ to a pre-recorded workout session.

The gym is being redeveloped and enlarged to make way for up to 15 additional pieces of equipment, which will include state of the art machines, including internet connected crosstrainers and treadmills.

Cllr Sarah Aldridge, cabinet member for health and wellbeing visited the site before Christmas, and said “It’s great to see progress at Sheppey Leisure Complex going smoothly. I'm particularly looking forward to seeing the "Healthy Lifestyle" gym in operation, which I hope will benefit all ages and will not only help improve mobility levels but also emotional wellbeing in a supportive environment.”

The complex is due to fully reopen this Spring.
