Gambling statement consultation

Do it online

Wednesday 15 August

Have your say about licensing gambling premises.

We are consulting on draft revised Statement of Principles for gambling, which set out the principles we will apply when carrying out our functions under the Gambling Act 2005.

The principles have to be reviewed and republished at least every three years, and should reflect locally specific gambling concerns.

The statement makes clear what the council expects from gambling operators with premises in the area. This allows operators to respond to locally specific requirements and adjust their own policies and procedures as required.

Cllr Cameron Beart, chair of the council’s licensing committee, said:

"The statement of principles has been revised to reflect what the council expects of gambling premises, and to incorporate changes in guidance and legislation since the last statement was published.

"We’re trying to balance the interest of those who provide gambling facilities as set out in law, with those of the local community.

"This means protecting children and vulnerable people from being harmed or exploited by gambling, making sure gambling is conducted fairly, and making sure it isn’t a source of – or supportive of - crime or disorder.

"We’re asking a wide range of people - local people, licence holders, other agencies and partners – what they think of the draft before a final decision goes to council later in the year."

The consultation runs until Friday, 14 September, and responses to can be made by email or post to Licensing, Swale Borough Council, Swale House, East Street, Sittingbourne ME10 3HT.
