The Bench Project

23rd & 24th November 2010, Rushenden

Art at the Centre Lead artist Nicole Mollett and artists Diana and Yvonne from UCA made a new table and bench using wood and recycled paint to liven up the area outside the local newsagents. Mirroring the design of the Rushenden Colour Palette Fence created by artist Richard Perry, the group continued the strip motif on the table and bench.

On the Wednesday afternoon over twenty young people joined in from the Rushenden community house, and passer bys. Everyone got to have a turn painting a stripe on the new table. The bench project demonstrated the relatively small effort needed to create a great difference in the general appearance of a place. The project also encouraged young people to get involved in the regeneration process.
