'Rushenden
Colour Palette' - Medichem Fence Project
by Richard Perry
As part of the Rushenden Art in the Public
Realm project, artist Richard Perry has been commissioned to
design an artwork for the fence which lines the road as one
enters Rushenden, owned by Medichem International. The concept for the project was to create a
colour palette for Rushenden, taken from images taken by
local photographers, as part of the Roaming Perspectives 3
workshop. The fence slats will be painted a range of blues
to reflect the range found naturally in the nearby nature
reserve.
Over 35 participants took part in painting
the fence, most of the work was completed by Vi-involved
volunteers, and a special day was held for local children
from the Rushenden community house, the youth group and
local community representatives.
Nicole
Mollett said “We are delighted with how these projects have
captured the imagination of the local community, who have
contributed so much towards the final artwork. Once again,
people from Sheppey have demonstrated that they can express
their connection for where they live through art and in the
process come together to make it work
