Roaming Perspectives Rushenden
Saturday June 12th 2010, 2-4pm
To celebrate the natural beauty of Rushenden, Art at the
Centre is inviting a professional artist to lead the third
Roaming Perspectives workshop on Saturday the 12th
of June. Artist Richard Perry has been commissioned to
deliver the Art in the Public Realm project in Rushenden,
which will consist of a major new sculpture and a
installation along a fence leading into the village. As part
of this project participants are invited to take pictures of
the area, which will be collected on the day, and become
part of photographic exhibition and inform a colour palette
for Rushenden.
Rushenden is positioned on the western side of the Isle of
Sheppey, bordering on to ancient marshland, and close to
sites of historic significance including Deadman’s Island,
and one of the earliest settlements on the Island. The area
has seen many forms of industrial use, and still has a
working mini
railway with carries scrap metal across the
main road. The walk will lead the group through a range of
inspirational landscapes, and will focus on capturing the
colours and textures that exist both in the natural and
manufactured environment.
The images will then be collated in a group
work collage to be exhibited in the Art at the Centre Mobile
Art Space later in the year in Rushenden.
This project is part of the North Kent
Walking festival for more information on the festival got to
