My work, a combination
of painting and drawing, is inspired by urban planning. As an
artist, I embody the role and the visual language of the
architect. The result is both a critique of urban planning, as
it creates a system which controls society, and simultaneously a
fascination with the order and belief in perfection through the
architectural environment.
Karien Van Assendelft
My art practice and research are in the
field of sociolinguistics, specifically into everyday
conversations and miscommunication. The way I work is by
building an intuitive archive of everyday conversations that
acts as a starting point for my sound installations. My art
mostly takes place in public space and in interactive
collaboration with the public.
