My work, a combination of painting and drawing, is inspired by urban planning. As an artist, I embody the role and the visual language of the architect. The result is both a critique of urban planning, as it creates a system which controls society, and simultaneously a fascination with the order and belief in perfection through the architectural environment.

Past exhibition:

POSTGRADUATE EXHIBITION 2007

POSTCARD of my own work

Karien Van Assendelft

My art practice and research are in the field of sociolinguistics, specifically into everyday conversations and miscommunication. The way I work is by building an intuitive archive of everyday conversations that acts as a starting point for my sound installations. My art mostly takes place in public space and in interactive collaboration with the public.
